Position Summary

Hamilton Community Foundation (HCF) has an opening for a summer intern, working with the Finance and Administration team. The intern will report to the Manager of Corporate Services, as well as work with other Finance and Administration department and members of HCF’s other teams. Activities will include research into best practices related to operating and reporting within the sector, organizing and maintaining our information systems database; testing for internal control processes and procedures, and updating process manuals. In addition, the intern will assist with administrative functions integral to the ongoing operations of the organization and other finance team projects as they arise throughout the summer.

Position Details

The Finance and Administration Intern will ideally commence work the week of May 28, 2018 for approximately 13 weeks at 30 hours per week. This is a paid internship. It is open to students who are enrolled in a post-secondary program and intending to return full-time in the forthcoming academic year. Applicants must also be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred and are legally entitled to work in Ontario.
HCF is located at 120 King Street West, Suite 700, Hamilton Ontario. Specifics of the work schedule will be mutually determined with the successful candidate. No car is required for this position.

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will have an interest in the charitable sector as well as an educational focus in the business/finance area. Interests in internal controls, process documentation, and database management are assets. The successful individual must demonstrate initiative, strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an ability to work independently with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong Excel and Word skills would be helpful.
