Hamilton Community Foundation’s scholarships and bursary funds provide assistance and encouragement to promising young students challenged by the costs of education. In all cases, the funds are paid directly to the student’s educational institution on his or her behalf. The following HCF scholarship, bursary and fellowships are available through an open-call process.

Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund

This fund provides educational bursaries to students with serious financial need who have graduated from a publicly funded high school in Hamilton who are registered at an approved college or university in Canada or the United States. The bursary can be used to assist with tuition, housing and other expenses related to your post-secondary education. You can apply to this fund to support your first year as well as subsequent years of studies at a college, university or institute.

When you apply to the Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund, you will automatically be considered for five other bursaries, depending on your individual circumstances, from the following funds:

Albert & Betty Walters Fund
Joan C. Watt Memorial Fund

You must submit your online application by the following dates: October 1 and February 1. After each of these dates the online application will close until the next round.

Geritol Follies Bursary Fund

This fund provides bursaries for students with serious financial need who have graduated from a publicly funded high school in Hamilton or Burlington, who are enrolled in a performing arts program at a college, university or institution in Canada or the United States, studying voice, drama, dance or musical instrument. You can apply to this fund to support your first year as well as subsequent years of studies.

The Geritol Follies performing arts bursary can be used to assist with tuition, housing and other expenses related to your post-secondary education.

You must submit your online application by October 1. After this date the online application will close until the next round.

Eugene B. Eastburn Fellowship Fund

This fund supports a full-time, post-doctoral student in the sciences at McMaster University.  Visit the McMaster website for information about applying, here.

David Davis Memorial Fund

David Davis came to Hamilton in 1984 as a talented organist and choir director leading several choral groups in Hamilton and Burlington, including the Hamilton Children’s Choir, Canadian Orpheus Male Choir, Ars Antiqua and the choirs of Christ’s Church Cathedral and St. Luke’s Anglican Church. Mr. Davis was passionate about promoting the value of music in our lives and encouraging the development of musical talent.

The David Davis Memorial Fund provides bursaries to students with serious financial need who are enrolled in a music program at a college, university or institution in Canada, the United States or abroad and have a demonstrated musical ability. You can apply to this fund to support your first year as well as subsequent years of studies.

Application deadline: You must submit your online application by October 1. After this date the online application will close until the next round.
